Recent Thefts From Motor Vehicles

Good afternoon,

We are currently tracking an uptick in thefts from vehicles across the city, including in and around Warndon. While we are investigating these crimes and patrolling affected areas, we want to share this information to raise awareness and help keep you, and your belongings, safe.

An important thing to consider is that these crimes are committed by opportunists going for an “easy target” such as an unlocked car door, or items left in plain sight within a vehicle.

There are some simple but effective things you can do to help protect your property - just remember Lock it, Hide it, Keep it.

Lock it: Always check that you have locked your car doors, especially overnight.

Hide it: Never leave items in plain sight within your vehicle, items like a bag could suggest that there are valuables inside the bag, and items like a cheap pair of sunglasses may be mistaken for an expensive branded pair that, unfortunately, a thief decides is worth stealing.

Keep it: If it is possible, keep your vehicle close to your home overnight and consider installing motion detecting lights and a camera.

We are also encouraging the community to call us on 101 if they see anyone acting suspiciously around a vehicle.
